What kind of programs are available?

There are a few different types of colporteur programs, but the most common fall under the categories of magabooking and big booking. Magabook programs are the most common, so we will cover them first, and talk about big booking later. Magabook programs are organized especially for students ages 16 and up who want to do God's work, while earning money for school. They are open to homeschoolers and other young people interested in learning the work.

Where are Magabook programs located?

Magabooks programs, especially, are growing rapidly and there are many held around the USA & Canada each year. In the USA you can find them far west & south with the California conference, far north with the Michigan conference, down in the southeast with the Southern Union, and along the east coast with the Review & Herald. There are other programs scattered here and there in between.

(Note: Youth Disciple Youth Bible Camp, and Piedmont Valley Youth Bible Camp often have a short magabook class incorporated into their summer camp programs for young people ages 12-17.)

When are Magabook programs usually held?

Designed with students in mind, programs are usually held for 1-2 weeks during spring breaks, 10 weeks during summer breaks, and 2-3 weeks during winter breaks. Some colleges, such as Ouachita Hills College, have programs for their students during the school year, as well.

How are Magabook programs run?

Colporteur programs are lead by leaders who are experienced in the canvassing work and often have around 12-18 students. The leaders teach the students how to colporteur, mentor them through the summer, keep the program running smoothly, and provide transportation.

During work, young people are divided into small teams with one leader, each doing a different area of territory. The leader drops off the students, checks on them, delivers more books, transports them to the next street, and works with them occasionally at doors.

On Sabbaths there are opportunities to visit churches in the area, share experiences with church members, and tell about what God is doing for the program. When God works miracles, who wants to keep the good news to themselves?

Magabooking has changed so many people's lives--not only those who have received the books, but those who have set aside summer plans to do God's work. The adventures are awaiting, God's sustaining power is at your disposal, the angels are longing to help you, are you ready? Join the army of young people today!

Where can I get a Magabook canvass?

There are many magabook canvasses, and each conference has their own adapted version for the same books. My personal preference is the one I've been using since my first summer program, in 2001. Here is a copy of it: Magabook Canvass (Note: I personally omit the word, "selling" in the introduction)

What about Big Book Programs?

Bigbook programs are more few, but Michigan, California and the Southern Union each usually host a small one during the summer. They are for older young people, who have their own vehicles and are willing to work alone and provides perfect training and skills for leadership, Bible work, and witnessing.

A big booker works alone all day, coming back in the evening to join the team. Usually a leader will work with him/her at least one full day each week, for on-the-job training. The rest of their training is done during mornings with the group. Although the focus is on the larger sets, the magabooks are still used as dropdowns, so you don't have to leave a home without leaving something with them.

Want to try it for a summer? You will learn perseverance, drive, courage, accountability, leadership, people skills, and financial skills. The experience is one you will NEVER regret! Who wouldn't want to work on the "front lines" of God's work?
